When meeting people, a person that suffers from shyness can believe that it is an uncomfortable experience and may avoid this type of social interaction as much as possible. If this is true, the shy person can be very lonely due to being uncomfortable and suffering anxiety when meeting people they do not know. If you have trouble meeting people then you’ll have trouble finding friends and even a love interest. It’s also very stressful because you’re constantly worrying about having to meet people and then once meeting them what to do next. This usually takes on you suffering some anxiety because you are having this mental conversation with yourself about what to say next and what activities will you have to participate in. This can really be fun because you can set goals for yourself and go places and practice! Great conversation openers are everywhere. How many people have approached you and began talking about nothing. You can do the same thing. You can learn great conversation starters by watching how other people do it while you’re in the store, at work, traveling or even while watching television or reading! There is no end to how you can learn how to converse with other people. Once you have a grasp on how to start a conversation, then start trying out different openers on different people. You may crash and burn a few times but eventually you will get much better and it will become more comfortable for you to do. Remember, the goal is to try different social strategies to assist you in overcoming your shyness.

Practice, Practice, and Practice Some More
If you really want to overcome your shyness then you need to practice meeting new people and speaking with people. You also have to practice approaching strangers and introducing yourself to them. This can be difficult, but go for it anyway. At some point in the conversation, your anxiety will subside and you will find that you are relaxed and thinking about other things than your shyness. You will also notice that you will be able to speak freely without wondering what to say or how to say it. You should challenge yourself and create goals for yourself. The more comfortable you become the better you are at using certain strategies to alleviate your anxiety when triggered by your shyness. Your shyness may never subside, but at least you will know some coping techniques that will permit you to be able to interact with different people in a manner that is comfortable to you.
